Industrial Biotechnology („White Biotechnology“) makes use of microorganisms or enzymes for the industrial production of chemicals like special and fine chemicals, building blocks for agricultural or pharmaceutical products, additives for manufacturing as well as bulk chemicals and fuels. Renewable resources are the favoured raw materials for Industrial Biotechnology. Teaching and research in this area is additionally provided by Prof. Berensmeier (Selective Separation Technology) and Prof. Kremling (Systems Biotechnology), both members of the School of Engineering and Design, as well as by Prof. Brück (Synthetic Biotechnology), Department of Chemistry.
