C/sells is one of fiveshow cases of the funding program “Smart Energy Showcases – Digital Agenda for Energy Transition” (SINTEG). The goal behind this showcase is to optimize the electricity generation and consumption at the local level. The C/sells vision divides the grid into cells, where the regional cells interacts together to optimize the energy system as a whole. Supply and demand is balanced within the cells, then with the neighboring cells.

Within the work frame of this project, the IfE is modeling and developing the intelligence behind the fundamental component of a cell, which is the building model and its energy system. The goal is to develop and assess the energy management system by means of modeling and experimental prototyping. Consequently, building models with diverse properties are to be integrated with electrical and thermal energy supply systems as a hardware, via a locally developed hardware-in-the-loop system (HiL).
A home energy management system (HEMS) is also developed not only to interact with the local devices, but also with the local energy management system (LEMS) and the central (“zentral”) energy management system (ZEMS) to enable local, and regional optimization.
Integration of the HEMS along with the HiL approach will guarantee realistic results for the different scenarios which will be evaluated.
