The German government is aiming to increase the proportion of CHP to 25 %. As the use of CHP systems in the household sector is limited due to building renovations, the commercial sector seems particularly interesting for the targeted increases. In addition to a high electricity demand, many commercial properties are also characterized by a high low-temperature process heat demand, which makes them particularly interesting for CHP systems.
In the FORETA joint research project, four commercial properties were equipped with micro-CHP systems and the necessary measurement technology. It was shown that these systems can be operated both efficiently and financially, particularly for accommodation establishments, butchers and fitness studios.
