The sustainability of the energy supply of cities and municipalities can already be decisively influenced at the urban planning stage. Urban planners must be aware of the impact of their decisions on energy consumption and the resulting emissions. This is largely made up of energy requirements for electricity, heating, air conditioning and transportation.
The aim of the "Urban Planners for Renewable Energy Sources (UP-RES)" project is to make energy planning an elementary part of urban planning. This requires new knowledge and skills on the part of urban planners and energy suppliers. As part of the project, training courses were held in 5 countries (approx. 800 participants) and extensive teaching materials (10 languages) and concepts were produced. The IfE was particularly involved in the development of tools and the creation of teaching materials.
